Day 2 – Tarangire to Central Serengeti. Afternoon game drives in Serengeti
Overview: The drive from Tarangire to Serengeti takes about 6–7 hours (or around 4 hours if overnighting in Karatu) and is a true safari adventure. After enjoying breakfast at your lodge, you will depart with packed lunchboxes for the journey ahead.

The road first leads through lively villages and fertile farmlands, passing the bustling town of Mto wa Mbu and skirting the dramatic Rift Valley escarpment. From here, the route climbs into the Ngorongoro Highlands, with their lush slopes and winding roads that reveal sweeping views of both the Rift Valley and the Ngorongoro Crater.

Beyond this point, the smooth highway gives way to gravel and dirt tracks as the road descends into the Ngorongoro lowlands. This stretch, about 1.5 hours long, can be bumpy, dusty, and hot, especially around midday. Still, the journey is far from dull—you’ll pass Maasai herders, traditional bomas, and cattle, with chances of spotting occasional wildlife like an ostrich or a giraffe along the way. Around this time, you’ll pause to enjoy your picnic lunch at a scenic spot before continuing into the Serengeti.

As you cross into the endless Serengeti plains, the first wildlife sightings often come soon after entering the gate. From there, the road transforms into a game drive itself, with opportunities to spot the Serengeti’s rich wildlife en route. By late afternoon, you’ll make your way toward your lodge, aiming to arrive before 6:00 PM, where a warm dinner awaits to close your day’s journey.

About Central Serengeti: The beating heart of a magnificent ecosystem, Central Serengeti is the best place to go on a safari in Tanzania, known for its vast open plains and home to the annual Great Migration. This area is a stronghold for predator activity and offers some of the best year-round game viewing. The area possesses a variety of habitats, ranging from swamps and rivers to kopjes and thick woodlands, which in turn nurture a variety of fauna.

The famed Seronera River Valley is also located in the southern part of Central Serengeti. It is referred to as the Big Cat Capital of Africa, owing to its dense population of big cats.

Wildlife at Central Serengeti: The Central Serengeti, particularly the Seronera Valley, is one of the most wildlife-rich areas in all of Africa. This region is a year-round safari hotspot where you’ll often spot large prides of lions basking in the sun or stalking prey through the tall grass. The elusive leopard is frequently seen lounging in acacia trees along the Seronera River, while cheetahs scan the plains for gazelles. Massive herds of elephants roam through the woodlands, often joined by giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and warthogs. The area is also known for its thriving hyena clans, often spotted in the early mornings or near carcasses. Great migration passes twice through this region. One between November and December as the migration crosses from North to South Serengeti and again from April to June as the migration moves between South Serengeti and Ndutu.

By late morning, the journey continues north, a scenic drive of about 3.5 to 5 hours. As you leave the open plains behind, the landscape gradually shifts to more hilly and rugged terrain, signaling your approach to the far north.

Your destination is the Kogatende region, famed for the dramatic Mara River—the stage for the spectacular wildebeest river crossings during the Great Migration. Along the way, you’ll stop for a picnic lunch and enjoy sightings of resident wildlife such as zebras, topi, and gazelles that dot the route.

By late afternoon, you’ll arrive in the North Serengeti, with time for a short game drive near the Mara River before heading to your lodge or camp for the evening.

About North Serengeti: The North Serengeti is one of the park’s most dramatic and untouched regions, best known as the setting for the legendary Great Migration river crossings at the Mara River. Between July and October, vast herds of wildebeest and zebra surge into this area, making it a focal point of the safari calendar.

Geographically, the north offers a striking contrast to the open plains of the central Serengeti. The landscape transitions into rolling hills, rocky outcrops, and lush river valleys, with the Mara River cutting a deep channel through the wilderness. This mix of rugged terrain and permanent water sources creates a uniquely scenic backdrop, distinct from anywhere else in the Serengeti.

Day 4 – North Serengeti. Full day game drives
Overview: After breakfast at the camp, your day begins with a game drive through the plains of the Northern Serengeti. Soon, you’ll encounter the vanguard of the migration—vast herds of wildebeest and zebra stretching across the savanna, their calls filling the air. Watching them graze and intermingle is an awe-inspiring sight.

As you approach the Mara River, anticipation builds. Herds gather on the banks, restless and hesitant, sensing the dangers of crocodiles and strong currents. This is a waiting game, a test of patience as you watch the wildebeest gather on the riverbank. Then, with sudden courage, the first animals leap, sparking a chaotic cascade as thousands follow. It’s a raw and electrifying spectacle of survival.

While waiting for the crossing to take place, we usually have our lunch in the vehicle itself. The afternoon takes you deeper into the northern reaches, following the herds and seeking other wildlife like lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, topi, and various antelope species before returning to camp by 6 PM.

Tips:

• Be patient. River crossings are unpredictable and can take hours to occur. Your guide will use their knowledge and network to find the best spots.
• If river crossing is a top priority, travel between Late July to Mid September and plan for at least 2–3 nights at North Serengeti.
• Wear layers, as mornings can be cool and the midday sun intense.
• Bring a high-quality camera with a telephoto lens to capture the action.
• If you are doing a hot air balloon safari, this morning is a good time for it.
• To reduce road transfer time by about 11 hours, you can fly from Arusha to North Serengeti on day 1 and start safari.

Day 5 – North Serengeti to Central Serengeti. Morning game drives
Overview: After breakfast, you will have a final morning game drive in the North Serengeti before beginning your journey back towards the Central region. If we were unlucky in spotting a river crossing the previous day, this morning gives us another opportunity. We eventually depart around noon from North Serengeti and gradually proceed to our accommodation in Central Serengeti with enroute game drives.

The en-route game drives will offer continuous wildlife viewing as you travel through the changing terrain. The drive will take you through the Lobo Valley's hilly country and woodlands before arriving back in the Seronera plains. This is your second chance to immerse yourself in the world of the Central Serengeti's legendary predators. You can look out for large prides of lions, elusive leopards in their favorite trees, and cheetahs on the plains. The Seronera River attracts a diverse range of animals, including elephants, hippos, and various antelope species, making it a guaranteed wildlife-rich experience. We plan to reach the accommodation before 6:00 PM.

Overview: Your final morning in the Serengeti begins with an early start, as the pre-dawn light is the most active time for predators. The majority of our game drive today is spent at Seronera Valley which is renowned for its high concentration of big cats.

Around mid day, you'll enjoy a picnic lunch before beginning your transfer to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You'll ascend the outer slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a breathtaking natural wonder. The views from the rim, as you approach your lodge, are simply spectacular, a fitting end to your time in the Serengeti and a dramatic welcome to your new destination. You will arrive at your camp at Ngorongoro/Karatu in the late afternoon, with time to relax and prepare for tomorrow's incredible crater tour.

For approximately five hours, you will explore the floor of this UNESCO World Heritage site, a unique and self-contained ecosystem teeming with an incredible density of wildlife.

The crater is a natural amphitheater where you have the highest chance of spotting the "Big Five" and a wide array of other animals, including hyenas, jackals, wildebeest, and zebras, all living in close proximity. The landscape is a breathtaking mix of grasslands, swamps, and a central soda lake often colored pink by thousands of flamingos.

After a final picnic lunch and an unforgettable morning of game viewing, you will begin to ascend back to the crater rim and continue your scenic drive back to Arusha. The journey takes you through the beautiful highlands, a final chance to appreciate the stunning Tanzanian landscape.

About Ngorongoro Crater:The Ngorongoro Crater is a geological masterpiece, a massive, unbroken volcanic caldera that provides a spectacular backdrop for your game drive. As you descend a steep road from the crater rim, you'll feel as though you're entering a lost world. The 2,000-foot-high crater walls, often shrouded in a light mist, create a natural amphitheater, enclosing a diverse and vibrant ecosystem.

The crater floor itself is a patchwork of landscapes. You'll traverse vast, open grasslands, where herds of wildebeest and zebra graze. These plains are punctuated by small acacia woodlands and rocky kopjes, providing excellent vantage points for predators like lions and cheetahs. A key feature is the shimmering, central soda lake, often teeming with thousands of pink flamingos and other waterbirds. Near the lake, you'll find lush green swamps and fresh springs, which attract hippos and elephants. The combination of these varied habitats within a single, contained basin makes the scenery of the Ngorongoro Crater truly unique and unforgettable.

Wildlife at Ngorongoro Crater: The crater floor is teeming with life. Hippos wallow in freshwater pools, massive elephants graze peacefully, and large prides of lions patrol the grasslands. Spotted hyenas and a variety of gazelles, zebras, and wildebeest are also abundant. The crater floor offers best chances of seeing back Rhinos in your itinerary. Birdlife is equally impressive, with thousands of flamingos often seen on the shallow soda lake.

Day 8-10 – Zanzibar

Over the next three days, immerse yourself in the serene coastal charm of Zanzibar. From lounging on white-sand beaches and savoring Swahili cuisine to indulging in activities like snorkeling, spice tours, dolphin encounters, or exploring Stone Town’s cultural past — there’s something for every kind of traveler. This portion of your journey is about unwinding and recharging, where the roar of lions is replaced by the gentle rhythm of waves. On Day 10, depending on your return flight, enjoy a leisurely morning before your transfer to Zanzibar Airport.
